Anlässlich des 100sten Jahrestages der Türkischen Luftwaffe wurde erstmalig eine Airshow auf dem Luftwaffenstützpunkt in Izmir ausgerichtet. Obwohl dies die erste Veranstaltung ihrer Art in der Türkei war, wurde sie perfekt organsiert. Zu den großangelegten Parkplätzen ging es via Autobahn-Zubringer ohne Wartezeit, die Verpflegung hatte keinerlei Engpässe, ja selbst an das Ausleihen von Stühlen dachte man. Die Sprecher verstanden ihr Job und wussten das Publikum emotional in Wallung zu halten. Aber auch das Flugprogramm hatte es in sich. Da die Türkish Stars in den letzten Jahren bei vielen europäischen Veranstaltungen vertreten waren, kamen im Gegenzug auch viele europäische Teams, wie die Red Arrows aus Grossbritanien, Frecce Tricolori aus Italien, Patrouille de France aus Frankreich, Patrulla Aquila aus Spanien, Team Iskra aus Polen und die Wings of Storm gerne nach Izmir. Die längste Anreise hatten sicherlich die Thundenbirds aus den USA.

Zum Start wurde ein Defilee aller eingesetzten Typen der türkischen Luftwaffe wie, u.a. SuperPuma Helicopter, diverse Klein-Schulmaschinen, T-38 Talon und T-37 Strahl-Trainer, Hercules und Transall-Transporter, KC-135 Tanker sowie F-16 und F-4 Jäger gezeigt. Neben den eingeladene Teams waren die Solodisplays recht F-16-lastig (vier Solodisplays). Erstmalig auf einer Airshow konnten wir Demos der pakistanischen Luftwaffe bestaunen, die mit einer F-16-Demo und der Vorführung der JF-17 Thunder aus chinesischer Produktion teilnahmen.

Erwartungsgemäss ernteten natürlich die lokalen Teams, wie die Türkish Stars, die Solotürk-F-16 Demo aber auch der in Europa bestens bekannte Ali Öztürk mit seinem Kunstflugdisplay wahre Begeisterungsstürme. Obwohl der Platz viel Gegenlicht hatte, war es eine Top-Veranstaltung, die hinsichtlich Professionalität und Organisation ihresgleichen sucht und jeden Cent der Reise wert war. Ich denke, besser hätte sich die türkische Luftwaffe nicht in Szene setzen können.
