Zum Anlass des 400. Jahrestages der Gründung der Stadt Quebec und der parallelen Einweihung eines zusätzlichen Terminals auf dem Jean Lesage International Airport wurde eine hochkarätige Airshow ausgerichtet. So wurden u.a. fünf hochkarätige Jet-Teams eingeladen. Die Patrouille de France musste allerdings wegen Terminproblemen (Feierlichkeiten zum eigenen Nationalfeiertrag) leider absagen. Die Red Arrows, Blue Angels, Thunderbirds und natürlich der Lokalmatador - die Snowbirds hielten sich an ihre Teilnahmezusage. Damit war der Weg frei, dass die Thunderbirds und Blue Angels ihren sonst stetig eingehaltenen Mindestabstand von 150 Meilen aufgaben. Der Veranstalter hoffte auf ein gemeinsames und damit historisch einmaliges Display dieser beiden U.S.-Teams. In letzter Minute konnten sich die Thunderbirds und Blue Angels dennoch nicht durchringen, gemeinsam zu fliegen. Diese politische Entscheidung tat jedoch der privaten Beziehungen der Piloten unter sich keinen Abbruch. Zu den jeweiligen Trainingsflügen wurden reichlich Doppelsitzer benutzt und die Blue Angels nahmen die Piloten der Thunderbirds und Snowbirds mit - ebenso taten es die Thunderbirds mit den Blue Angels. Die Piloten genossen diesen Austausch, was die Fotos nach deren Landung beweisen.

Die Red Arrows brillierten als bestes Team der Veranstaltung. Die Piloten der amerikanischen Teams honorierten die Engländer mit offenen Mündern während des Displays und mit anhaltenden Beifall danach.

Die Airshow wurde auf drei Tage angesetzt, wobei die Abend-/ Nacht-Airshow am Freitag noch die besten Witterungsbedingungen aufwies. Die Tages-Airshows am Samstag und Sonntag kämpften mit starken Regenfällen. Dennoch kamen über 160000 Zuschauer, was einen neuen Rekord und den wirtschaftlichen Erfolg der Veranstaltung sicherstellte.

Gerade Nacht-Airshows werden in Europa nicht veranstaltet, sodass sich schon aus diesem Grund der Weg nach Quebec gelohnt hat. So entstanden Bilder in der Lichtstimmung eines Sonnenuntergangs, die einfach einmalig sind. Ein Jato-Start des Fat Albert der Blue Angels oder eine Wall of Fire eines simulierten Angriffs einer CF/A-18 wirken bei Dunkelheit halt effektvoller, als bei schönstem Sonnenschein.

Neben der Auswahl der Jet-Teams bewiess der Veranstalter ein sehr gutes Gespühr für die restlichen Displays. Das Skyhawk-Team der Canadischen Luftwaffe beeindruckte durch ihre waghalsigen verkettenen Fallschirmabsprünge. Das eine Gehbehinderung noch lange kein Grund ist, den Traum vom Fliegen nicht auszuleben, bewiess Dan Buchanan mit seinen emotional nachdenklich wirkenden Displays mit seinem Drachenflieger am Tag und der pyrotechnisch unterstützten Motorsegler-Vorführung bei Nacht.

Der Höhepunkt war der Auftritt des Team-X bestehend aus der Wall of Fire der Rich's Incredible Pyro, dem Shockwave-Truck von Les Shockley mit seinen 36000 PS generiert durch drei Pratt & Whitney J34-48-Triebwerke, verbunden mit einem gemeinsamen Tieflugdisplay von Skip Stewart mit dem Wingwalker-Team von Teresa Stokes und Mr. Airshow - Gene Soucy.

Resümee: Eine gelungene Veranstaltung, die trotz teilweisen schlechten Wetters, alle Ausgaben wert war.
